The Kelowna Riding Club Volunteer Program

How Your Time Can Make A Difference!

I am always asked (and indeed, I wondered when I first became a member) why does the Kelowna Riding Club not have more programs in place of its members and better facilities for its members to use?

As all of our operations and functions are run entirely by volunteers, this volunteer time (or money) is the direct link to making the Kelowna Riding Club a success!

Our volunteer program at the Kelowna Riding Club is fairly new so I would like to take the opportunity to clarify what our program is, why is it set up, and how all of our members can participate.

The volunteer program was set up to help save the costs of employing outside services to perform duties that could be preformed by our own members (in turn giving your club more money to put toward other areas) and to help promote more activities for our members to participate in. The volunteer program that is set up at the Kelowna Riding Club is optional. Upon membership, all members have the option of either paying a $75 fee if they are unable to contribute their volunteer time (this $75 post-dated cheque must be included in all membership applications to the club) or a contribution of 6 volunteer hours over the duration of the current year. These hours are flexible: members can choose WHAT they would like to volunteer at and WHEN they could like to volunteer, although some guidelines have been established. Volunteer time is submitted by email to the volunteer coordinator who will keep track of member hours.

What counts toward volunteer time?

Volunteering at any Kelowna Riding Club function or at the club towards club activities counts toward volunteer time...(acceptable events include the KRC Spring Dressage Show and KRC Spring Hunter Jumper Show, adult camp, clean-up weekends, clinics, set-up for the AGM, raking at the club, cleaning the clubhouse...). Please note: there are many non-KRC functions that occur through rentals at our club facility and work on these projects will NOT count toward volunteer time. If you are in doubt about what counts, contact the volunteer co-coordinator!

Any work done in the presence of a member by that member's family or friends can be used toward the members volunteer time. Example: if a member attends a clean-up weekend with her best friend or mom (both of whom are not members), then their volunteer time will count toward that members volunteer time. We have established this ruling to help make it more fun for our members to participate in our volunteer program. Please note: a member cannot "donate" her time to another member that has not completed her volunteer hours.

Please contact the volunteer co-ordinator for more information to help make YOUR club a success!
